There’s a saying: To take the island, you have to burn the boats. Today , I burned the boats. After 12 years in a steady, safe job, I submitted my resignation and chose to take the island, fully committing to thru hiking the Pacific Crest Trail.   There is no longer a safety net, no easy path backward. The only option now is forward. If I fall, I fall forward. In cutting the safety lines and burning the boats, I find freedom in the total commitment along with the uncertainty.
