TEHACHAPI - Rest and Recovery

Day 40 of this journey. We're currently resting in the town of Tehachapi at mile 558.

The last 2 days, I think the wind blew us down the trail. I have never hiked or camped in wind like we've had the past couple days. Two nights ago, I spent much of the night supporting my tent so it didn't blow apart. Last night was a replay. I wouldn't doubt we had some gusts to 50 mph. Luckily my Big Agnes Copper Spur 1 survived another night with some help from me. We're both looking forward to a good night sleep tonight out of the wind in town.

As we hiked this morning we ran into a SOBO (a south bound hiker.........we're considered NOBOs........northbound hikers). He told us his tent poles shattered last night. He packed everything in his pack except his sleeping bag when he went to sleep. He brought his pack into the tent just in case his tent ripped apart......at least he wouldn't lose any loose items. I think I'm going to do the same thing when we head back out. SOBOs are telling us they have been dealing with the wind for many, many miles north.

As for now, we are taking two complete days off in Tehachapi to recoup and recover from our last 7 days of traveling. I've been dealing with a sore lower right leg and look forward to letting it heal up. I'm sitting here right now in a comfy cot with ice on my leg. We're staying at a trail angels house. They have a shed type structure set up for hikers. There's a couple cots, a kitchen, a bathroom and shower, and a big sink to do laundry in. There's no cost. Donations accepted. Barbara who runs the place is absolutely fantastic! It is the people of this trail that make this trail what it is!

I'm going to work on a few things while relaxing the next couple days.......hopefully I can add more pictures soon.

Talk to you soon.....

A little rest and recovery in progress
